Edison vs Tesla Tommy Stevens Physics
Thomas Edison and Nikola Telsa have one of the biggest physics rivalries known to man. The competition between the two created the electrical system we have today. In this essay, we will look into depth of these two great scientists’ lives.
Thomas Edison was born in Milan, Ohio on February 11th, 1847, but he grew up in Port Huron, Michigan, the seventh and last child. He developed hearing problems at an early age, due to untreated ear infections, causing him to go deaf very young. In school, his mind often wondered. One day, the revered was overheard calling him “addled”. He then left school and didn’t come back. This ended his 3 months of schooling. Some of his discoveries include the telegraph, the microphone, and the light bulb. He planted a system for electricity distribution in 1880. He founded the Edison Fulminating Company. He often found himself around his friends Henry Ford and Harvey Firestone.
Nikola Tesla was born July 10th, 1856 in the village of Smiljan, Austrian Empire (Croatia). Nikola was the 4th of 5 children to his parents, Milutin and Duka. During his education time period, he attended Primary School in Smiljan, where he studied German, Arithmetic, and Religion. Some of his best discoveries include wireless telegraphy, induction motor, and the remote control. He is the founder of Tesla Motors. Some of his friends include Mark Twain, Joesph Jefferson, and Robert Underwood. Tesla never married.
There are big differences between Edison and Tesla. The main one seems to be based on who got the credit for what. Many Tesla fans accuse Edison of having stolen much from Tesla who worked for Edison during his early years. They claim Edison was a thief and that he died a rich and powerful man surrounded by friends because he robbed Tesla and others like him. Meanwhile, Tesla died broke and miserable and lonely with his closest friends being wild pigeons he had enticed into his room at the Hotel New Yorker. Both of these guys were prolific inventors and became famous for it.
Hopefully I have given a slight understanding for these two great scientists. They both worked very hard for the things that they were recognized for. Thomas Edison was believed to take some of Nikola Tesla’s ideas, although some of his inventions were very unique and creative. I think this essay proves the Thomas Edison had a bigger impact on the physics world, rather than Nikola Tesla.
